Figures reveal insurance fraud rise
Insurance fraud is continuing to rise despite hitting record levels in 2008, according to research.
Some 74% - almost three-quarters - of the UK's leading Insurance Fraud Investigators (IFIs) interviewed by Ordnance Survey saw an increase in fraudulent claims since the beginning of the year.
Around 80% of investigators say the situation will continue to get worse.
This is because they think the credit crunch will be the top issue facing them in the next 12 months. This could further fuel fraudulent claims.
Meanwhile, more than two in five (44%) have seen a rise in the volume of fraudulent claims made and a similar number (46%) have seen both the volume and in the monetary value of claims made increase.
More than half (57%) have seen a rise in the number of completely bogus claims made, while 54% noted a rise in inflated claims.
