Parents may sue over buggy injuries
Pushchair maker Maclaren could soon face a law suit brought by angry
British parents who claim their children have been maimed by the firm's
products.
Last month, millions of the company's buggies were recalled in the US after parents reported that the closing mechanism of the chairs had injured and amputated the little fingers of their children.
At first, Maclaren did not extend the recall to British consumers, or offer free hinge-cover safety kits designed to prevent an injury, as was the case in the US. However, after public a outcry, the firm went back on its decision and the special hinges were made available to UK families.
Now, Northamptonshire-based Maclaren is facing 15 potential injury cases in the UK.
Maclaren is now calling on any parents whose children may have been injured, to the extent where they underwent medical treatment in the past 10 years, to get in contact with them.
Legal representatives of the families are also calling on Trading Standards to demand a recall of Maclaren buggies.
